Oven Not Heating Evenly? Test, Don't Guess

Uneven baking is annoying, and it is also a useful diagnostic clue. Where the food burns tells you a lot about the fault.

Where does it burn?

Burnt on one side often points to one failed element or a door seal leak on that side. Burnt on top or bottom points to the matching element. Raw in the middle can mean the oven is not reaching temperature at all.

Test the temperature properly

Put an oven thermometer in the middle, set a known temperature, and wait. A sensor that reads 50 degrees wrong will fool the display every time.

Door seals and preheating

A door that does not close fully loses heat on every bake. And skipping preheat makes even a healthy oven bake unevenly, because the walls have not caught up yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my oven temperature wrong?

Usually a worn sensor or a control that has drifted. We test the sensor before replacing a control board.

Is it the element?

If one side burns and the other stays raw, an element is a strong suspect. We test it with a meter.

Can I calibrate it myself?

Some ovens allow a small offset in settings. If the error is large, or the oven swings wildly, that is a fault, not a setting.

Gas or electric?

Gas ovens use ignitors, electric ovens use elements. Tell us which you have when you call.
